Description
Alkasol Syrup is a commonly prescribed urinary alkalising agent. Its active ingredient, disodium hydrogen citrate, is metabolized in the body to bicarbonate, which increases the pH of urine (makes it more alkaline).
Mechanism of Action
Disodium hydrogen citrate converts into bicarbonate in the body. Bicarbonate neutralizes excess acids in urine, increasing urinary pH. This reduces irritation of the urinary tract and prevents formation of certain types of kidney stones.
