Generic Composition

• Glimepiride 2 mg
• Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (Prolonged Release)

Drug Class

• Sulfonylurea (Glimepiride)
• Biguanide (Metformin)

Indications

• Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
• Used when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy.

Mechanism of Action

• Glimepiride: Stimulates pancreatic beta cells to release insulin, lowering blood glucose.
• Metformin: Reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity.

Dosage

• Take once or twice daily with meals, or as directed by your physician.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the prolonged-release tablet.

Common Side Effects

• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Stomach pain
• Headache
• Metallic taste

Warnings & Precautions

• Monitor blood glucose regularly.
• Avoid skipping meals to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
• Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.
• Use cautiously in patients with kidney, liver, or heart disease.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Contraindications

• Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
• Severe kidney impairment
• Hypersensitivity to Glimepiride, Metformin, or any tablet component.

Drug Interactions

Use with caution with:

• Insulin and other antidiabetic medicines
• Alcohol
• Corticosteroids
• Diuretics
• Beta-blockers
• Certain antibiotics and antifungal medicines
